Artist's Comments

I recently read the novel The Rice Mother by Rani Manicka. Here character Mohini inspired me to do this quasi fanart. I don't want to give anything away, so I won't go into strong detail about Mohini's importance, but she's the green eyed, very beautiful daughter of the main character. This portion of the story takes place during the Japanese occupation of Malaysia during World War Two. The family kept Mohini hidden in the house to protect her from the Japanese soldiers, and in one scene she's hiding behind a curtain, so here we are, a green eyed girl behind a curtain.

It works, trust me.

that's a very nice deviantion. when i read books , especially good books, they inspire me to do artwork as well. but i never usually get around to doing them. perhaps one day ;)

oh yeah, i just recently took up cycling as well. i stopped in highschool when i got my drivers lisence and never touched my old bike since. cycling is just such a thrill and it's a great exercise. now, i try to cycle around 10km every two or three days just to keep moving. (since i don't really do other outdoor activites..... damn art!! haha)

I started it for the exercise as well. I like it better than walking or running, because I find I can last a lot longer on my bike, and it takes me a much greater distance so that I can explore the area, go to parks, etc. Last summer I wasn't very busy, so I was riding between two and three hours almost every day. This year the weather's been a bit iffy, and I've got a lot more to do, but generally I try to get in at least an hour or two a day. I find I have a lot more energy because of it.

hey that's awesome. yeah, i find biking is a lot better than jogging. plus it's better for your leg joints =D and you ride even more than me XD

oh yeah when i was riding a few days ago i saw a deer on a local trail. i was quite surprised. the deer was pretty big and that trail is pretty small (like 0.5 kms LOL) wonder where the deer came from XD

They're always a surprise, those deer. One afternoon, I was riding along a semi-busy street and out hopped this large grey-brown thing and my first thought was "That's a huge freakin' dog..." and it took a moment for me to realize it was a big buck.

I like how the pattern on her clothes is, and how the sheer piece of fabrick flows in front.
there seems to be alot of sharp contrast between the blur and the sharp parts, that makes my eye jump around a bit. kinda distracting of the image. almost like there is no definition between the objects. other than that, very nice.

I recently read "The Rice Mother" aswell. I was hoping someone had made an artwork on Mohini, I was looking for it. This is great.
When I read the book I was expecting her to be found all along but I was very sad to read about the Japanese finding her. I was hoping the Japanese would not have found her. :(

Great drawing, just as I imagined the character Mohini would be!
